Video remixed

Music video for the song "How to Save a Life". I made this video a few years back. I recently saw howtosavealife.com website and it said to make your own video with the song. So i did some re-edits to the original video and decided to put it on YouTube.

Hanging with Ben Stein

Hanging with Ben Stein, originally uploaded by mdshivers.

Today was L's bday and so I took her out to dinner. Went to Twist and had lots of good sushi, humus, mussels, and other yummy stuff. After we finished we walked around Phipps Plaza, and there a Community Childrens display and no one around except three people sitting at this booth. And one of those guys totally looked like Ben Stein. Well we ended up talking to them and it was Ben Stein! He had finished giving a talk and was waiting to get dinner and saw the booth for children in need. He decided to stick around and see if he could help out. So he just sat there and read his book and drank his starbucks... just hanging.

Ben was a very nice guy- totally friendly and warm. Very pleasent guy to meet. Amazing that I totally want to be in the production world and this guy could make it happen. But of course I wasn't going to ask for a job or something like that.

anyway- didn't have my 20D, but i had my trusty cell-phone! Too bad. it would have been a cool picture blown up. But this will do!

Media Day for Apple

Indeed it is. wow-- Apple came out with some cool stuff! New shuffle,Video Ipods, and nanos. Also updated Itunes 7 and a sneak peak at their new content streaming device code name I-TV. man that is going to be awsome.

I was expecting a little more- maybe I have my expectations too high lately, but over all its a good annoucement.

I mean now you can buy movies off of I-tunes and watch it! very cool. They will be a great way for independent film makers to get their content online.

Funny now that Apple is stuck with the I-Tunes name. They did change it to I-Tunes Store from I-tunes music store.

ok- i give you some feed back of itunes 7 when i can download it!

It's ShowTime

Well you've probably already heard this, but Apple is coming out with some big stuff today. Last week the introduced the 24inch I-Mac (haven't seen it yet) and today they have a special announcement. Well I just checked out I-Tunes and its completly black the the text "It's showtime- The I-tunes store is being updated"

SO here are my predictions:

Full Length Movies
New Wide screen I-Pod
Streaming device from computer to TV so you can watch your downloaded movies
I-Tunes 7.0
I am going to want to spend a lot of money by the end of the day
Burnable Movies

Well- it starts at 1pm est time- and they already took down the music store. Wow. let the fun begin!

ALS

For the past two years I have seen a co-worker of mine leave work often. I first saw him in his wheel chair and laptop waiting to be pickup on a side street that is near my car. I noticed the laptop off hand that was mounted to his wheel chair and thought that was pretty cool. He couldn't move and he could really look around. But he had his laptop there to communicate. I thought to myself- hey if i was in that situation- i'd want a laptop too! So days go on and I see him again being picked up in his van- while his lab dog wait patiently for him.
It was amazing that he still went to work, and still went through his day. HIs body was frail- his skin was pale and I really didn't have a clue what was wrong with him. I though maybe he had gotten in a bad car wreck and that he had paralyzed himself... or something to that degree. I was just so impressed that he kept doing what he was doing.

So today when I was about to leave work for the weekend, I checked my email one last time and saw that a person at work had past way and they would be holding a memorial service. For some reason it triggered that memory of him (i hadn't seen him in quite some time and he slipped my mind) and thought maybe it was him. It said that he had been battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease. I quickly looked his name up and there popped up his picture. And boy was it different than the man I saw in the wheel chair.

My heart saddened and I knew that it was him who had past away. I looked at his picture and saw a young healthily man- probably my height and weight at the time of the picture.

It was just so odd to put the two together- to see what he looked like before hand and to know what he looked like recently. I have never paid much attention to Lou Gehrig's disease. I heard that it was bad- but couldn't put it to mind.

"Approximately 30,000 patients in the United States currently have ALS. The disease has no racial, socioeconomic, or ethnic boundaries. The life expectancy of ALS patients is usually 3 to 5 years after diagnosis. ALS is most commonly diagnosed in middle age and affects men more often than women."

But now i do... and now i know. the emotion of that- of seeing that person- of knowing that nothing could be done.... that makes me very sad. But when i saw his picture today- before he was sick- i could see beyond that -- see inspiration in his eyes.

It makes me think of my own health and how i am doing. I need to understand that i am completely blessed by what I have been given.

its amazing what death can bring- sadness, joy, so many emotions. But for a person I never really knew, I'll miss him.

Château d’Aigle

Château d’Aigle, originally uploaded by mdshivers.

Taken back in March- I've had a few extra minutes lately to go through the photos from my travels to Switzerland.

Renowned as one of the most important castle sites in Switzerland, the 12th C. Château d'Aigle, surrounded by vineyards, towers above the town. It has a square keep, numerous small towers and a balcony from which boiling pitch was poured down. This former residence of the Bernese provincial governors served as the district prison until 1972 and today houses an important viticultural museum.
